Opossum on the Mossy Log follows a Virginia opossum across a moss-covered fallen tree beneath broad understory leaves. Its pale cream coat, dark ears, pink nose, long bare tail, and fine forepaws emerge from deep green moss and luminous woodland foliage. The opossum leans forward with its nose close to the log, alert to the surface beneath it rather than posed for the viewer.
The puzzle moves through layers of curling vines, rounded seed or fruit forms, a lichen-covered trunk, warm oak leaves, tiny mushrooms, and distant teal woodland. The opossum provides a clear central subject, while the shifting leaves, bark, moss, tail, and color passages give the surrounding pieces plenty of visual distinction as the image comes together.
