I created Where the Fritillaries Gather around the relationship I saw between Butterfly Milkweed, fritillaries, and the summer habitat surrounding them. The orange flowers may catch the eye first, but the artwork is not an isolated flower study. It is about what happens when a native plant, its pollinators, the grasses, stone, and nearby water are understood as one living place.

Fritillaries move naturally through the blooms while black-eyed Susans, shoreline grasses, pale rock, and blue-green reflected water hold the wider setting together. I wanted the butterflies to feel active within their habitat—not placed there as decoration—and the milkweed to remain rooted in the particular light and ecology around it.

As a giclée fine art print, the artwork retains the small butterfly markings, botanical detail, and transitions between brilliant orange, summer green, stone, and water. The smooth matte paper gives those colors clarity without making the surface feel glossy, and the unframed presentation leaves room for a frame and mat chosen for the collector’s own space.

Color Palette: Leading colors of bright Butterfly Milkweed orange and warm fritillary wings; secondary colors of reflected blue-green water and summer grasses; balanced by black-eyed Susan yellow, pale stone, deep green foliage, and cool water shadow.
